from HealthNewsDigest.com
In response to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recent report of side effects linked to injectable wrinkle fillers, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) states that wrinkle fillers appear safe when injected properly, in appropriate areas and after a pre-treatment medical history and physical exam performed by a qualified physician. Lasers and Optical Technologies in Facial Plastic Surgery
from Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery
Lasers and optical technologies play a significant role in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. The unique ability of optical technologies to target specific structures and layers in tissues to effect chemical, mechanical, or thermal changes makes them a powerful tool in cutaneous rejuvenation, hair removal, fat removal, and treatment of vascular lesions such as port-wine stains, among many other procedures. With the development of adjunct techniques such as epidermal cooling, lasers and optical technologies have become more versatile and safe. More

Botox Treats More Than Wrinkles
from Aestetic Medicine News
Everyone knows about Botox, the wrinkle-reducer that’s injected into the face to retain a youthful look. It turns out that the procedure now has a number of new uses. Doctor Refuses Plastic Surgery to Patients Who Smoke
from Las Vegas Sun
A Summerlin, Nev., surgeon is making sure his patients not only know, but see, the negative consequences of smoking on certain cosmetic procedures. For a face lift Dr. Samir Pancholi, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, requires that his patients stop smoking four weeks before the procedure and refrain from smoking for four weeks after the surgery. If they are having a hard time grasping the concept of the dangers of smoking, he shows them graphic pictures of people who falsely said they quit smoking prior to their surgeries. More
