ADA Seeks Indefinite Delay on FTC Red Flags Rule from American Dental Association
The American Dental Association is urging the Federal Trade Commission to indefinitely postpone the effective date of the Red Flags Rule for dentists while reconsidering its applicability to them overall. The Rule requires financial institutions and creditors to develop a written plan to prevent and detect identity theft. The FTA staff has deemed dentists and physicians as creditors that are subject to the rule when they don't receive payment in full from their patients at the time of treatment. More

FDA Approval Granted on New Titanium Dental Implant from The Wall Street Journal Manhattan Scientifics announced that its affiliated manufacturing partner in Albuquerque, N.M. has received Food and Drug Administration clearance to market Manhattan Scientifics' super strong titanium metal dental implants. The double-strength metal is expected to integrate into bone up to 20 times faster. More
Maxillary Osteosarcoma Associated With a Dental Implant from JADA A 38-year-old woman developed a low-grade chondroblastic osteosarcoma of the right maxilla 11 months after receiving a titanium dental implant. She was treated with systemic chemotherapy and then a maxillary resection. As of this publication, 47 months later, she is alive and disease-free. More

Study Shows 98.5 Percent Success Rate for Dental Implants from the Journal of Oral Implantology via The Earth Times Dental implants are 98 percent successful and cause little or no bone loss, according to new research published in the Journal of Oral Implantology. Researcher found that 98.5 percent of the implants survived and there was no discernable bone loss in 88 percent of the implant sites. The mean follow-up time was 7.5 years. More
