Shreveport, La., Firefighters Want Sprinkler Ordinance from CBS Shreveport – Jan. 14, 2009
Fire fighters say there is no state or city law forcing older model apartments to have sprinklers installed in case of a fire. Fire Chief Brian Crawford wants an ordinance mandating all apartments to have those sprinkler systems. Fire fighters say if this proposed ordinance gets passed, by the time they load up their gear and get the fire truck to the scene of the fire, they'll be dealing with less property damage and less loss of life.

Lives 'At Risk' with Lax Laws on Sprinklers
from The Toronto Star – Jan. 21, 2009 Safety of seniors is being put behind cost savings when it comes to installing potentially life-saving sprinklers in old retirement homes, says the president of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs in Canada. In the wake of a fire at a retirement residence in the north end of Orillia in Ontario, Canada that killed two people and critically injured eight others, Richard Boyes says it is "frustrating" that provincial regulations have failed to require sprinkler systems in all retirement homes. Boyes' frustration stems from the fact that 14 years ago a fire at a retirement home in Mississauga, Ontario, prompted a coroner's jury to make 53 recommendations to improve fire safety in the province, including making sprinkler systems mandatory in homes caring for eight or more residents.
