Arizona House Bill Would Prohibit Home Sprinkler Mandates

Calling it an issue of consumer choice, Rep. Sam Crump is sponsoring a bill ,backed by home builders, that would prohibit municipalities from passing ordinances to require sprinklers in new, detached single-family homes. House Bill 2267 won endorsement from the House Government Committee on Jan. 27 and was headed to the House floor by way of the Rules Committee. More

Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Store Saved by Sprinklers

A Pigeon Forge business burned Saturday. Fire erupted outside the Old Time Pottery store, burning a large section of the store's exterior. Fire investigators traced the starting point of the blaze to cardboard boxes near the front entrance of the building. Brisk winds fueled the flames but also pushed the fire away from the store's front doors. It was enough to trigger the building's sprinkler system inside, which helped contain the damage. No one was injured in the fire. More

Activated Sprinkler Assists in Extinguishing U.K. Factory Blaze

A factory partially destroyed by a huge explosion in December was hit by another blaze yesterday. Emergency services were called to Duco International in Dover Road, Slough, U.K., after a fire broke out in a chemical storage warehouse. The sprinkler system had been activated and firefighters from Slough took about 50 minutes to extinguish the flames. No one was injured in the incident. More

Sprinkler System Helps Control Tampa, Fla., Building Fire

A water-flow alarm caused by a fire in the common area between a liquor store and Lifestyle Family Fitness drew firefighters to Citrus Park. "Crews arrived to find water from the sprinkler system coming from under a rear door," a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue news release states. The sprinkler system controlled the blaze, and crews arrived to extinguish the fire. More

San Diego, Calif., City Hall a Scofflaw on Fire Sprinklers
