Credit Given to Sprinklers for Dousing Two N.C. Fires
from News-Record – April 16, 2009 The Greensboro, N.C., Fire Department says sprinkler systems saved two apartment complexes from more serious damage within a week. In the most recent instance, a sprinkler put out a cooking fire in a three-story apartment building before firefighters could arrive. The fire damage was contained to a stove and the cabinets and a microwave oven above the stove. The fire department also said sprinklers put out a fire at an apartment complex. Damage was minimal. No injuries were reported in either fire. More

Sprinkler Stops Fire from Getting Out of Hand in West Virginia
from WSAZ – April 16, 2009 Firefighters say a stove fire at the Renaissance Center in Huntington, W. Va., could have been a lot worse, had the sprinkler system not extinguished it in time.
Firefighters say the woman inside left something cooking on the stove. She fell and injured her wrist when the fire broke out, so she couldn't escape. However, firefighters say the sprinkler system kicked on and extinguished the flames. She is expected to be okay.

Santa Barbara Backs Fire Sprinkler Mandate

Sprinkler Helps Limit Damage in Oregon Apartment Fire

Council Rejects Charging Fire Sprinkler Fees to Gainesville, Fla., Businesses
from Gainesville Times – April 9, 2009 Some members of the Gainesville, Fla., City Council are not having an easy time swallowing proposed fees from the Public Utilities Department.
Council members rejected a proposal from the water department to charge a monthly fee to in-city businesses with fire sprinkler systems. The monthly fee would have been based on tap size.
