Lightning Strikes Propane Line, Sprinklers Put Out Fire from WMUR Manchester – Aug. 17, 2008 A family in Salem, N.H., is trying to figure out what they can salvage from their home. Lightning struck a tree in their backyard and a propane line about 20 feet from the house carried the current into the basement, igniting a fire. Sprinklers inside the home extinguished the flames within minutes. The owners said they are glad to have the sprinkler system. More

Sprinklers Extinguish Fire at New Tulalip Hotel in Washington state from Herald Net – Aug. 18, 2008 The fire broke out in the elevator lobby area of the 10th floor, according to Stephanie Price, spokeswoman for the Marysville Fire District. The hotel's sprinkler system extinguished the fire by the time firefighters had hauled their hoses up the stairwell, Price said. More
Sprinklers Could Have Helped Torch Lit Complex from The Morning Call – Aug. 19, 2008 A construction worker removing steel frames with an acetylene torch accidentally started a fire that destroyed two apartment buildings and left nearly 400 people homeless. Workers at the construction site did not take sufficient fire safety precautions, Attorney Robert Mongeluzzi said. The occupied buildings also did not have sprinkler systems in the attic, he said.
''That would have doused the flames,'' Mongeluzzi said. ''It never would have burned down.'' More

St. Anthony’s Residents in Illinois Safe after Fire from WQAD – Aug. 18, 2008 More than 100 patients were able to return to their rooms following a basement fire at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center in Rock Island, Ill.
