Residential Fire Sprinkler Battle Still Ablaze from Occupational Health & Safety – Sept. 17, 2009 Code development hearings of the International Code Council set for Oct. 24-31 and Nov. 4-11 at a Hilton hotel in Baltimore will include the latest bout between advocates of residential fire sprinklers and their foes, notably the National Association of Home Builders. Four proposals to remove the requirement for home fire sprinklers in new one- and two-family homes from the 2009 International Residential Code will be considered at those hearings.

Fire Training Scheduled for Students in OSU's Greek System
from the Gazette Times– Sept. 22, 2009 The Corvallis Fire Department will hold its fourth annual Greek Fire. The training session will take place at Oregon State University near the Agriculture/Life Science Building.. The purpose of the academy is to educate fraternity and sorority leaders on fire safety practices to protect themselves, their houses and their residents.The academy includes a lecture on fire prevention and how to talk to residents about fire safety, and the final event is a live fire demonstration. Two side-by-side "dorm rooms" constructed in a reusable trailer will be ignited. One room will be equipped with a sprinkler system; the other will not. The demonstration shows the advantage of sprinklers and the magnitude of an uncontrolled fire in a college-type room.

School Sprinklers Douse Fire in Saskatoon, Canada

Sprinkler Puts out Fire at Rockwell Collins in Iowa from Radio Iowa – Sept. 15, 2009 Nearly 700 employees at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were evacuated from a number of buildings because of a fire. Cedar Rapids Fire Department spokesperson Greg Buelow says a sprinkler system doused the fire, which started just above a drop-down tile ceiling over two interconnected buildings. No one was injured.
