ICC Votes to Include Residential Sprinklers in Building Code from AFSA - Sept. 21, 2008
On Sunday, Sept. 21 at the International Code Council (ICC) meeting in
Minneapolis, a provision was passed to include in the 2009
International Residential Code (IRC) a requirement for residential
sprinklers in all one- and two-family dwellings. Although this will be
included in the 2009 IRC, the effective date of this requirement is
Jan. 1, 2011. This means that all jurisdictions adopting the 2009
code unchanged will require fire sprinklers in all homes beginning in
2011.
