40-Year-Old Sprinkler Saved the Day from NTV – Oct. 4, 2008
A week after a fire breaks out, it's business as usual at a Kearney, Neb., company. It seems a 40-year-old sprinkler system saved the day, an investment that paid off big time.
From the outside, nothing seems different about Holmes Heating and Plumbing Supply. But, once you step inside, the evidence of an electrical fire is all too clear.
Chuck Prochaska, the general manager, says, "It went up the wall and followed over on the ceiling. There are four sprinkler heads in the office where the fire started. All four of those went off." Sprinklers lining the hallway went off too. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was out.

Sprinkler Puts Out Fire Started by Chemicals from San Diego Union Tribune – Oct. 4, 2008 Overheated chemicals are being blamed for a fire at the Biosite facility in Sorrento Valley, Calif., said Lee Swanson of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The building's sprinkler system put out the fire, but the department's HazMat unit did some cleanup of the methanol, he said. More

Sprinkler Contains New Mexico Blaze
from KOAT Albuquerque – Oct. 4, 2008 Farmington, N.M., firefighters were dispatched to a business fire in San Juan County. Fire officials said a fire broke out when employees working in the garage were cleaning a paint booth with flammable chemicals. Officials said the fire was knocked down quickly because the sprinkler system helped contain the blaze.

Sprinkler System Douses Casino Kitchen Fire
from Rapid City Journal – Oct. 3, 2008 An automatic sprinkler system prevented potential disaster when a grease fire broke out at a restaurant on Historic Main Street in Deadwood, S.D. After arriving on the scene, Assistant Chief Bill Glover was able to determine that there was a grease fire in the kitchen at Miss Kitty's Chinatown. However, the automatic fire supression system had already deployed and extinguished the fire. More
Kansas State Greeks Lobby Congress for Fire Prevention Act
from UWire – Oct. 7, 2008 Fraternities and sororities sent delegates to Washington, D.C., recently in efforts to lobby Congress for tax-deductable funding for preventing house fires.The College Fire Prevention Act, House Resolution 642, will create a grant program to match donations to install fire sprinkler systems in existing student housing, including fraternities and sororities. Sprinkler Contains Elevator Fire from WFMZ-TV – Oct. 7, 2008 A fire in an elevator forced as many as 50 people to evacuate an
apartment building in downtown Reading, Pa. The fire was sparked by a
burning mattress in an elevator. Officials say the sprinkler system
activated and the fire was contained to the elevator shaft. No one was
injured.
