Sprinklers Extinguish Commercial Building Blaze in Kent, Wash. from KCPQ - Oct. 8, 2009 A fire that broke out in a processing plant near the downtown Kent, Wash. area was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system. Investigators say it appears no one was inside the building. More

Residential Sprinkler Report Issued
from AFSA - Oct. 14, 2009 "Benefits of Residential Sprinklers: Prince George's County 15-Year History With Its Single-Family Residential Dwelling Fire Sprinkler Ordinance" is now available for download at http://www.homefiresprinkler.org/. The report offers a detailed history of the effects of the automatic sprinkler code in Prince George County, Md. No fire deaths occurred in sprinklered structure fires during the period studied, and there were only six civilian injuries. The report also showed that having sprinklers cut the property loss by almost one-half.

Sprinkler Puts Out Missouri Dumpster Fire from KOMU – Oct. 10, 2009 A single fire sprinkler put out a dumpster fire at Paquin Towers in Columbia, Mo., preventing damage to the building. Upon arrival, fire fighters found the dumpster in the loading dock area had been on fire, but the sprinkler was able to put it out. There was no damage to the building and no evacuations were required. Officials said if fire sprinklers had not been present, the potential for extensive damage and evacuations of the building would have been likely. More
U.K.: Many New Schools Lack Sprinklers from BBC - Oct. 12, 2009 Almost half of new school buildings in England do not have fire safety sprinkler systems, the BBC has learned. The government issued guidance two years ago saying sprinklers should be fitted in almost all new schools. More
Grand County, Colo., Officials Weigh Putting Home Sprinkler Systems into Code from Sky-Hi Daily News - Oct. 11, 2009 After soaking up testimony regarding the safety of sprinkler systems in single-family homes, Grand County, Colo., Commissioners postponed a decision until Oct. 27 on adopting the 2009 International Building Code. Fire sprinklers in single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes are a new requirement in the 2009 code, a provision due to go into effect by 2011. As Grand County contemplates updating its codes from the 2000 version to the 2009 one, Grand County Building Official Scott Penson advocates taking out the section of the 2009 code that requires residential fire sprinklers.
