Sprinklers Extinguish Accidental Fire at Pilgrim Plant from Wicked Plymouth Local – Nov.1 , 2008
A fire in a calibration laboratory at Pilgrim Station Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, Mass., was extinguished in about 20 minutes with no injuries and no release of radioactivity, a Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman said. Pilgrim owner Entergy Nuclear Operations spokesman David Tarantino said fires are never good, but the sprinkler system in the operations and maintenance building had extinguished the fire in the radiation protection calibration lab before the plant’s fire brigade and the Plymouth Fire Department had arrived. Fire Contained at Arizona High School
from Casa Grande Valley Newspaper – Nov. 4, 2008 Maricopa, Ariz., Fire Division Chief Mark Boys said the units responded to the fire during the second half Maricopa High’s homecoming football game. The fire, he said, was started as a result of an electrical short and was contained by a state-of-the-art sprinkler system in the new school building.

Sprinkler Credited for Saving Apartments
from The Citizen Online – Nov. 3, 2008 An apartment fire in Peachtree City, Ga., was extinguished by a fire sprinkler, city fire officials reported. As a result, the fire did not spread beyond the apartment to the other 19 units in the three-story building at The Retreat at Peachtree City, officials said.
The blaze started when the resident left food cooking on the stovetop and it caught fire, officials said. That in turn activated one sprinkler head that doused the flames, officials said.

Fire Breaks Out in Gainesville, Ga., Apartment
from Access North Georgia – Nov. 1, 2008 A Gainesville, Ga., resident is temporarily displaced a blaze broke out in a second floor unit at the Carrington Park apartment complex. Deputy Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said the building’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire. He said the apartment suffered minor fire damage and moderate water damage.

A house fire in the Troon North neighborhood in Scottsdale, Ariz., was extinguished quickly with the help of a residential sprinkler system and the swift response of firefighters, officials said. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported, Nichols said. A fire investigator was working to determine the cause and the extent of the damage, she said. Single-family homes built in Scottsdale after Jan 1, 1986 are required by city law to be outfitted with a fire sprinkler system. More
McDonald’s Fryer Fire Put out by Sprinkler
from Great Falls Tribune – Oct. 25, 2008 A fryer fire closed down a Great Falls, Mo., McDonalds for several hours. Great Falls Fire/Rescue Fire Marshal Doug Bennyhoff said the fire started in a fryer. Employees attempted to extinguish the fire, but to no avail. The automatic sprinkler system activated quickly and contained the fire to the fryer area, Bennyhoff said. No one was hurt in the fire. More
