from The New York Times

Unlicensed Locksmiths Preying On Mid-South Customers
from WREG
Locksmiths have the tools and the knowledge to break into your car and your home. If they're licensed to work in Tennessee, locksmiths are supposed to have criminal background checks, and insurance to protect you. But News Channel 3 Investigators in Memphis, Tenn., have learned a number of unlicensed, out-of-state companies could be striking Mid South customers at that most vulnerable. They pose as companies operating in the Mid South, right down to their local phone numbers and addresses. But, in reality, trusting that advertisement can cost you. More

BMW Explores the New 'Key' to Payments
from Contactless News
How nice would it be to zip to the local market and whip out your automobile key to pay for your purchases? U.K.: Small Business Costs are Falling
from This Is Money
Operating costs for small business have fallen significantly, according to figures out today from insurance firm More Than Business. Its quarterly business inflation guide reveals that small firms reported a 2.9 percent fall in costs during the last quarter of 2008. It is the first time in recent history that the cost of running a small business has fallen. The fall is due to a sharp drop in fuel prices, down 18.3 percent, and raw material costs, down 12 percent. Manufacturing and contractors reported the biggest rate of deflation, with costs falling by 4.3 percent and 4.5 percent, respectively. More

Small Business: Complying with Workplace Safety Rules
from Newsday
There's little room for error when it comes to workplace safety. An unsafe workplace can lead to serious injury or death, not to mention lost productivity and up to $70,000 in hefty government fines per violation for serious offenses. With today's high-stress work environment, where employees are taking on multiple jobs, it's even more important that businesses ensure they are complying with federal and state safety standards, say experts. This means taking preventive measures, including having proper safety training programs available to employees. More
