Every Swarthmore student in Swarthmore, Pa., is intimately acquainted with the experience of tearing through a heavy backpack late at night in search of his or her key. Propping open the main door to the dorm is a common solution, especially when guests are expected from other buildings. A universal access system would eliminate the need for keys, and instead students would be issued a card that would give them access to their dorm. More
Dallas Passes Convenience Store Security Ordinance from Security Detector News Dallas has joined a growing number of cities that are requiring convenience stores to boost security in an effort to curb criminal trespassing. The Dallas City Council passed a series of rules designed to keep stores safer and give police the power to arrest trespassers and loiterers. The ordinance requires all of the city’s 950 convenience stores to install “high resolution cameras, silent alarms and drop-down safes” by May 2010. It also requires store owners to register with the city and sign an affidavit allowing police to enforce no trespassing rules. More
