Police in the Cotswolds and Stroud, U.K., area are urging householders to take stock of their home security before the clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 25. PC Mark Godsland, Crime Prevention Design Advisor for the Cotswolds, said: "The change in the hour as winter approaches always coincides with a rise in the number of house and shed burglaries being reported." A new security alarm ordinance that would impose steeper fines for repeated false alarms—and have a mechanism to collect penalties—could be in place by the New Year. The draft ordinance, approved by the aldermanic Public Safety Committee, goes before the full board Nov. 5. If approved as expected, the ordinance should be implemented in about 60 days, police said.
