Spying on Your Keys

Computer scientists at UCSD have built a program that duplicates keys using pictures taken from hundreds of feet away without the owner even noticing. We just thought it was an interesting idea and it took off from there," said Benjamin Laxton, a UCSD alum who recently earned his Master's degree in computer science. Laxton wrote the software for the program, called "Sneak-key," in his free time. The technology can duplicate a key from 200 feet away easily. It processes photos from nearly any angle and measures the depth of each cut. More

Security Cameras Help Texas Police Bust ATM Thieves

An 18-year-old Texas man suspected of stealing an ATM machine right out of a convenience store faces new charges. Nicholas Henderson is now charged with engaging in organized crime. Henderson was arrested in July for burglary after police located him near a stolen ATM machine matching the description of the suspects that were seen in the store surveillance video. The video, captured by the surveillance camera at Austin's Walnut Market convenience store, shows the suspects smashing the front glass doors and then wrapping a chain around the ATM machine, pulling it out of the front of the store.
