Car Dealers Push to Save Their Stores

NADA Launches Ad Campaign Against Drastic Dealer Cuts

The National Automobile Dealers Association has created an ad campaign in the form of an open letter from NADA Chairman John McEleney to President Obama questioning why his auto task force is demanding drastic cuts in the number of U.S. dealers. "Cutting dealers at this time would do absolutely nothing to make either GM or Chrysler more viable," the letter states. "The idea that dealer numbers should be rapidly and drastically reduced apparently comes from Wall Street advisers. Mr. President, we urge you to choose Main Street over Wall Street." Waste to Clean Fuel Conversion Center Planned

Rentech, Inc. has devised a plan to convert renewable waste into clean fuel and electric power. The company expects to build a plant in Rialto, Calif. The Rialto Renewable Energy Center is designed to produce approximately 600 barrels per day of pure renewable synthetic fuels and export approximately 35 megawatts of renewable electric power that is expected to qualify under California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard program, which requires utilities to increase the amount of electric power they sell from qualified renewable-energy resources. Wheel Maker Hayes Lemmerz Files for Bankruptcy

Auto supplier Hayes Lemmerz International Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection — its second bankruptcy filing since 2001 — saying the supplier has been squeezed by production cuts in the auto industry and tightened credit markets.
