Florida Proposes to Adopt California Vehicle Emissions Standards from the Automotive Service Association
Florida’s Environmental Regulation Commission held a briefing last month to discuss the state’s proposal of adopting California’s motor vehicle emissions standards, including the fleet-wide average greenhouse gas standards. Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection has published its proposed rule to implement low emission and greenhouse gas standards for new mainstream passenger vehicles within the state, which would be identical to California’s EPA-approved standards. Auto Industry Loses 39,000 Jobs in August as Overall Unemployment Rises from CNN Money The continued slump in demand for new vehicles, along with shifting consumer preferences and increasing foreign competition, have prompted the automotive industry to shed thousands of jobs this year. The industry accounted for about 39,000 of the 84,000 total jobs lost last month, the Labor Department reported last week, helping push the nation's unemployment rate to a five-year high of 6.1 percent for the month.
