ASA Joins NHTSA in Safer Car Campaign from Automotive Service Association
The Automotive Service Association has joined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in promoting its Safer Car Campaign. ASA is asking its members to help communicate the importance of safe driving to customers and encourage them to visit www.Safercar.gov. There they will find a wealth of safety resources including information on how to report a safety defect, search for a recall and review facts regarding child passenger safety, tire maintenance and rollover prevention. The Web site offers a wealth of safety-related resources for new and used car buyers, as well as existing vehicle owners. More

Masking Mouldings from ABRN Years ago, masking parts instead of removing them was an issue more about time than quality (if it took less time to mask parts than remove them). With modern vehicle designs, refinish materials and refinishing systems, masking these parts now increases the likelihood of a paint failure due to a raw edge or a "bridge" to another part. These can lead to delaminating (peeling) of the paint film. Remove these parts prior to painting. Paint companies strongly recommend it, and the information providers support it with their refinish labor definitions. More

Toyota Expects First Operating Loss Since 1938 from USA Today Toyota, long the auto industry's poster child for efficiency, revised its predictions Monday to forecast its first operating loss since 1938, largely because of weak U.S. sales. Senators Introduce 'Sell Fuel-Efficient Cars Act of 2008' from Automotive Service Association U.S. Sens. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Richard Durbin, D-Ill., have introduced the "Sell Fuel Efficient Cars Act of 2008," Senate Bill 3737, which "will require the secretary of treasury to carry out a program to enable certain individuals to trade certain old automobiles for certain new automobiles, and for other purposes." The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. More
DEG Seeks New Administrator from ABRN The Database Enhancement Gateway (DEG) is seeking candidates interested in providing administrative services. This news follows the recent announcement that current contractor, Aaron Schulenburg, accepted a new position as the executive director of the Society of Collision Repair Specialists. The DEG is a joint initiative developed by the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP), the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) to provide collision estimating system end-users with a standardized process to provide feedback to the information providers (IPs) in an effort to promote collision estimating data accuracy.
