Fast Water
from Beijing Review
The water in the Water Cube pool is tranquil now. The predatory power of American Michael Phelps churning his way to an unprecedented eighth gold medal in the men's 4x100 meters medley relay, took swimming to new heights. Runners Go Underwater
from Half Moon Bay Review
It seemed like a weird idea, at first. For one cross country practice, Paul Farnsworth, the Half Moon Bay coach, required members of the team to meet at the Half Moon Bay, Calif., high school pool. Forget the running shoes and running gear. This practice was in the pool. The team was running, but in the pool, and not on the deck. Dr. Robert P. Wilder, an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Virginia, authored a paper in 2000 on the benefits of deep water running. More

Swimmers Prone to Dental Problem
from Fernandina Beach News-Leader
Repetitive exposure to the chemicals in pool water causes yellowish to brown deposits to form on the teeth, most commonly the front ones. Also known as "swimmer's calculus," the deposits are similar to common plaque or tartar that forms on the teeth but tend to be much darker in color and thus give a very unsightly appearance. More
