FINIS Age Group Coaches Clinic

ASCA will host a FINIS Age Group Coaches Clinic next week during Short Course Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. The clinic will be held each day of the meet (Dec. 4-6, 2008), between prelims and finals of the meet (12:30-4:00 p.m. daily) at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Swimmer Overcomes Challenges & Inspires Others from CBS- Baltimore Some people start life with special challenges. Some people refuse to let those challenges limit their accomplishments. Maryland Paralympic athlete Jessica Long is one of those people. In the six years she's been swimming competitively she's won literally too many medals to list. She's won seven gold medals at two Paralympics, the first at age 12.
She's broken 33 American records, 15 world and 18 Pan American. She just won the prestigious Sullivan Award for a burgeoning athlete. She's done it doing something she loves.

But don't wait too long to start. The brain-boosting effects of exercise diminish rapidly after early middle age, say researchers working in the lab of Yu-Min Kuo, PhD, of Taiwan's National Cheng Kung University Medical College. Kuo's team previously found that young brains create new brain cells and integrate them into existing brain networks. As animals get older, however, this process dramatically slows.
