Hand-washing detectors could help save lives
MSNBC Share
New health care technology could sniff out one of the leading causes of death in the United States.
HyGreen hand
hygiene sensors, developed at the University of Florida, can detect whether doctors and health care workers have followed hand-washing procedures before making contact with patients. If they don't, their ID badges will vibrate and alert a database that the employees failed to wash up.

Oncology Nursing News
Share
Today, our knowledge of germs, infection, and the need for cleanliness is much more advanced, but patients still face the dangers of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). Each day, 250 Americans die as a result of such infections, and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or taking immunosuppressive drugs are especially susceptible to HAIs. Even when not

researchers used a mobile, automated UV device to decontaminate hospital rooms at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Ohio and analyzed its ability to remove troublesome bacteria, including C. difficile spores. The device, known as Tru-D, uses reflected UVC germicidal energy to decontaminate air and surfaces, including those in primary shadows. Tru-D is manufactured by Lumalier in Memphis, Tennessee.
