While 2008 may have been a less-than-banner year for many businesses, health-care design still provided a good source of revenue, what with technology advancing, boomers aging, and facilities getting overcrowded. Witness the numbers we gathered from the top Interior Design Giants for 2009. Of those 100 firms, 49 did work in the health-care sector last year. While only the third-largest category for these firms, behind office and hospitality, health care managed to account for their highest hourly billing rates. More Than 93 Percent in Construction Industry Say Green Building Worth the Effort from Hospitality Design More than 93 percent of those involved with green building say that it's worth their time and effort, according to the third annual Green Building Survey by Allen Matkins, Constructive Technologies Group (CTG), and the Green Building Insider. However, 66.2 percent—down from 76 percent in the 2007 survey—agreed that it was worth obtaining official LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. More

from PSKF A designer in Holland has revamped the interior of Amsterdam ad agency Nothing with interlocking cardboard. The office redesign by Joost van Bleiswijk used 500 square meters of reinforced cardboard and did not to use any glue or screw to interconnect the 1500 separate pieces. More

Giant Eco-Egg Skyscraper: A Conceptual Luxury Hotel from Inhabitat From the unseen, unsung files of design competitions past comes the Envision Green Hotel proposed by Miami-based Michael Rosenthal Associates for Hospitality Design’s Radical Innovation design competition. Part wind tower, part urban eco-resort, and all egg, this “lobular” structure is touted as one of the most recognizable landmarks for the city in which it would ultimately be…laid.
