Trophy Hunting Industry Marketing Challenged by State of Global Economy
from the Namibia Economist
The main focus of the Namibian trophy hunting industry’s marketing campaigns takes place at dedicated sport hunting conventions in the U.S., Europe and Asia annually from January to March. Record numbers of Namibian trophy hunting operators again exhibited at these hunting shows. Traditionally international hunting conventions have always been very effective marketing tools for hunting outfitters from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to meet and interact with thousands of potential trophy hunting clients. However, based on the feedback received from trophy hunting operators who have recently returned from marketing trips, the prospects for the international safari industry has been negatively affected by the current global economic challenges. Hunters, Anglers have Chance to Comment on Fee Proposal
from the Austin American-Statesman
Hunters and anglers have just a few public meetings standing between themselves and fee increases for hunting and fishing licenses. In the next month, Texas Parks and Wildlife personnel will hold a series of open meetings to discuss what the department called in a press release a "modest $2-$4 bump" in the cost of a license. There are 21 meetings scheduled statewide before the Parks and Wildlife Commission gathers for a vote in late May. More

A National Passion to Bag Gobblers
from The Times Leader
Tony Hudak didn’t intend to set out on such a quest. The Noxen, Pa., resident stumbled upon the endeavor in 2000 when he became the 100th person in the country to complete the Royal Slam of gobbler hunting – bagging each of the five wild turkey subspecies that inhabit the United States. More

Legislature Ponders Pass Closure, Crossbows
from the Houston Chronicle
Rollover Pass isn’t being closed — at least not yet. But the possibility of the popular-with-anglers, man-made cut across Bolivar Peninsula being filled is much closer to reality than it was just a month ago. So, too, is the possibility of allowing use of crossbows during Texas’ archery-only hunting seasons -- a move that has drawn angry opposition from some bowhunters who see crossbows as the camel’s nose under the tent in a conspiracy to open the floodgates to a month -- October -- that for more than three decades has been exclusively reserved for “traditional” archery hunting. The Disappearing Act
from Buckmasters
Outwitting the senses of a whitetail can be difficult. In the past few decades, most diehard deer hunters have done several things to help contain their scent, blend in with their surroundings and go completely undetected in the woods. Disappearing in the woods is easier than it has ever been but being a ghost in the woods to the point where a whitetail can't smell, see, or hear you is still tough ... but not impossible. More

Where Patience Pays
from the Houston Chronicle
Not only will cows “bust” birds or otherwise ruin opportunities for spring turkey hunters, the livestock often stake claim to grain feeders meant to provide supplemental feeding for the big-game birds. Hunters are becoming increasingly bedeviled by bovines and other turkey hunting demons in the South Texas sander. More

Masters of Disaster
from The Palestine Herald
The best turkey hunts end almost as quickly as they begin. The gobbler falls for a mating trick and comes barreling in with its colorful plumage ruffled -- strutting, spitting and gobbling in a haughty display of self importance intended to impress the girls and discourage lesser suitors. One shot. Lights out. End of story. In this article, experts reveal 10 ways to botch a good turkey hunt. More

from The Muskegon Chronicle

They shot and killed not one, but four feral hogs. The largest, a huge female dubbed "Hogzilla," measured 6 feet, 3 inches from snout to rump, and weighed 514 pounds. More

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Holds that the Second Amendment Applies to the States
from NRA-ILA
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit recently marked a milestone in Second Amendment history by ruling that the Second Amendment limits state and local government infringements on our right to keep and bear arms through the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
