Lawmaker Aims at Making Texas Firearms Exempt from Federal Regulation

Rep. Leo Berman, a former Arlington mayor pro tem, has filed a bill to make guns, ammunition and gun parts that are made, sold and kept in Texas free from federal regulation. That would exempt them from federal gun registration, dealer licensing rules and buyer background checks. State laws would still apply. More

After winning big in 2008 with the passage of a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to "hunt, trap, fish and take game" in Oklahoma, the National Rifle Association says it wants to launch similar campaigns in a number of states in the South and Midwest. The author ran into a mind-boggling situation last week concerning the purchase of deer corn for wildlife feeders. The problem arose when he was reading the information stamped on the corn sacks that held some corn we had purchased. The info advised that the corn in the sacks "should not be fed to horses or cattle" and should not be consumed by humans. That sounds like this corn could be dangerous to wildlife. More

Texas Big Game Awards to Recognize Texas' Top Hunters and Land Stewards
