No Ducking the Hard Truth
from the Houston Chronicle
Every nesting season is a challenge for ducks, whether it’s mottled ducks on the Gulf Coast, wood ducks in the East Texas river bottoms or the huge majority of the continent’s ducks that nest in the north-central United States and Canada’s prairie provinces. This year, Texas’ mottled ducks look to face a mixed bag of habitat conditions. More

Governor Signs Law to Relieve Deer Problem
from the Texas Deer Association

from the Citizen Patriot
Before the cancer, Larry Fousie of Liberty Township, Mich., had three-quarters of a turkey grand slam. After the sickness, it's not so easy. While he is strong enough for adventure, Fousie dreamed of hunting the Osceola turkey in Florida — the last bird for the grand slam. More

Hogs Gone Wild
from the The Brownsville Herald
Rancher Epimeno Atkinson knows the frustration of trying to control the feral hog problem on the 1,500 acres where he raises cattle east of Rio Hondo. "You can catch a lot of them in traps, but you can't get rid of them," he said. "If you use poison, you will also kill a lot of game, maybe 60 percent of the deer." Two million feral hogs, half the number that live in the entire United States, call Texas home, according to the Texas Cooperative Extension. More

Six Dependable Ways Not to Bag Your Trophy
from Buckmasters
The author presents six of the most dependable reasons why hunters failed to bag their trophies, though there are certainly others. Give them some thought before you head away from home on that expensive "hunt of a lifetime" and save yourself the heartache and embarrassment of coming home empty-handed due to a predictable problem that could have been avoided. Big whitetails have enough tricks up their sleeves ... they don't need any extra help from the hunter. More

Can We Cull Bucks?
from the North American Whitetail Magazine
For many years, biologists and hunters alike have debated the practice of culling spike-antlered yearlings from the herd. The two "camps," as one outdoor writer once described it, thoroughly mixed and permanently fixed! In other words, both thought they were right although they vehemently disagreed. More

Hunting Beyond U.S. Borders? Get Your Passport to the North
from the Examiner
Many travel to the far reaches of Canada in search of monster black bruins. Here it is June already, yet "spring" bear season is alive and well in the far north of New Brunswick, Canada.
