Texas Aims to Increase Number of Female Hunters

State officials are organizing all-female hunting groups in an effort to woo girls and reverse a national decline in hunting. About 15 percent of 2008 youth licenses, or 20,000, went to girls under 17. That's up 6,000 from 2003, when Texas Parks & Wildlife began tracking the information. More

Kentucky Bear Season is Proposed for 2009

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission has recommended establishing a bear-hunting season for next year. At its quarterly meeting Friday in Frankfort, the board also proposed a late-season antlerless elk hunt on private land. More

Extended Hunting Season Nearly Doubles Mass. Coyote Kill

Massachusetts hunters took advantage of an extended coyote hunting season, killing nearly twice as many as the year before. Thomas O’Shea of the state wildlife agency said the season was extended because of increasing enthusiasm for hunting the smart animal, and to control aggressive coyotes. More

Study Suggests Wisconsin Black Bears Far More Plentiful

Marthinus Puts Freeze on Rhino Horn Trading

Some hunters have been abusing permits to shoot rhinos and export illegally obtained rhino horns - probably poached and directly linked to organized crime - as "hunting trophies". This was revealed by Environmental Affairs Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk last week when he announced a national moratorium on the trade in individual rhino horns. More
