Apply for Texas Hunting Drawings Now
from Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Applications for more than 5,700 hunters to receive special hunts through random computer drawings by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for wildlife management areas, state parks and leased private property are available online. These supervised hunts include white-tailed deer, mule deer, pronghorn, javelina, alligator, exotics, feral hog and spring turkey. Eight of the hunts are for youths, ages 8-16 only. As many as four hunters can apply together on one application. More

New York DEC Considers Allowing Bear Hunting in Northern County

Prompted by an expanding black bear population, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation has proposed opening new areas for hunting bears in the state, including parts of Monroe County. The changes would take effect this fall. In this part of New York, bear hunting has typically been limited to the Southern Tier. The proposal would extend the area farther north, including parts of the Finger Lakes region. More

New Anti-meddling Bill in Sacramento has Fatal Flaw: It's too Sensible

A bill that would stop local government interference in hunting activities in the state cleared the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and now will go before the full Senate. Despite the usual rants and raves from animal rights and anti-hunting groups, AB 815, sponsored by Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, was approved thanks to Democratic Sens. Darrell Steinberg and Mike Machado, who joined Republicans Dennis Hollingsworth, Bob Margett and David Cogdill to advance the bill. More

Gun Plan for National Parks Gets Extension

A controversial plan that would allow tourists to carry loaded guns in national parks is on hold, as pressure from critics has forced an extension of the public comment period through Aug. 8. Floated first by Congress and later considered by the White House, the plan would remove the current rule stating guns are allowed, but they must be properly stowed. The new proposal would replace the existing policy with a wide range of rules. More

NSSF Asks Sen. Obama ‘ Where Do You Stand on Gun Bans’

Following the recent landmark Second Amendment ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, sent presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) a letter, dated July 4, asking whether he believes laws in the City of Chicago – his hometown – that ban law-abiding citizens from having firearms, including handguns in their home, violate the Second Amendment. More
