Europe Looks to Africa for Solar Power from The New York Times
The European project known as Desertec is nothing if not ambitious. It aims to harvest the sun’s energy — using a method known as concentrating solar power, or C.S.P. — from the vast North African desert and deliver it as electricity, via high-voltage transmission lines, to markets in Europe. Eventually, its backers say, it could satisfy as much as 15 percent of the European Union’s power needs. More

Self-sufficient Commercial Facility Operates on Fuel Cells from Electrical Contractor Magazine Believe it or not, fuel cell technology was first introduced in the 1800s, but modern technology has made these systems more reliable. Therefore, it is plausible, as more information concerning these units becomes available, more of these systems will be used to provide power to small facilities that require only small amounts of electricity. Having said that, facilities requiring larger amounts of power are already using fuel cell technology to supply lighting and other power-operated equipment. More

Integrating Electrical Systems from Consulting-Specifying Engineer With many facilities relying on multiple power sources to ensure continuous operation, the value of integrating and coordinating these electrical systems becomes critical. Integrated power systems can include primary utility transformers, standby engine generators, UPSs (battery or rotary), fuel cells, and other types of power sources. The integration of these electrical systems requires careful planning, communication with other project team members, and support in the field during installation and startup. More
