University of Central Florida to Wrestle Purdue in Fort Myers, Fla.

Purdue will compete against the University of Central Florida at 8 p.m. tonight at the Fort Myers High School gym. Yes, you read that correctly — Purdue and UCF at Fort Myers High. "I don't know the last time a Big 10 team has wrestled in Florida, let alone for one dual meet," UCF coach Jason Balma said. "It's kind of neat how it all came together." More

UCF Finishes 2-0 at Central Florida Duals

The Knights improved their dual meet record to 6-0 with wins over Lawrence University (DIII - WI) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (DIII - WI). Both teams attended the Sunshine Open and wrapped up their Florida tour with a match at UCF. During the match against Lawrence University, the Knights started with a forfeit at 125 lbs. and 133 lbs. At 141 lbs. and 149 lbs. Willie Rothenberg and TJ Gillin lost close decisions to Lawrence's Z. Welke and T. Norton. At 157 lbs. Ryan Witzel earned a pin followed by consecutive forfeits at 165 lbs. and 174 lbs. At 184lbs. Graham Smith lost a decision to Lawrence's S. Leas. Richard Rippy (197 lbs.) scored a second period technical fall to put the Knights ahead 35-10. In the final match Lawrence's B. Hoh earned a first period pin over UCF's Daniel Rowe making the final score 35-16. More

Former Ram Fisk Wrestles Against PSU as Lehigh Wins

In a duel that came down to the final bout, junior Mike Galante earned a 9-5 decision over Mark Friend to lead No. 9 Lehigh to a 17-16 victory over No. 16 Penn State. The Mountain Hawks trailed by two after nine bouts, but Galante racked up four takedowns in his victory, which improved the Brown and White to 12-0 on the season, matching the 1961-62 team for the best start in school history. Wisconsin Makes Waves at Midlands

Top-ranked Iowa claimed its 20th team title at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., this week, edging runner-up and second-ranked Iowa State by three points, 156.6-153.5, on Dec. 30. The Hawkeyes captured three individual championships in the tournament, led by 149-pound junior Brent Metcalf. The native of Davison, Mich., won his second consecutive Midlands title with a 14-5 major decision against No. 3 Kyle Ruschell of Wisconsin. It was his 50th career win, and 47th straight victory as he improved to 15-0 on the year. Metcalf also earned the tournament’s Highest Point Total Award for scoring 27 team points during the competition, the most of any wrestler. More
