Lawrence University's Dave Novickis Headed for NCAA Division III Wrestling Hall of Fame

Lawrence University's Dave Novickis will be inducted into the Division III Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in March. Novickis, who has been the Vikings' head coach for 16 seasons, will be inducted on March 5 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is the site of the NCAA Division III Championships. More

MTSU Wrestling - New Year's Resolutions for 2009

Middle Tennessee State University has come a long way since losing its Division 1 NCAA team. Rising from nothing in 1999 to a Nationally Recognized NCWA program in 10 years is a respectable feat in an era of apathy towards "fringe" sports such as wrestling. USA Wrestling Hires Former Iowa Champ Zadick

Former Iowa wrestler Bill Zadick has been hired by USA Wrestling for the new position of resident coordinator and assistant national coach. Zadick, a 2006 World freestyle wrestling champion, will serve as the liaison between USA Wrestling and the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) concerning USA Wrestling’s resident athlete programs. Southern Illinois U. Edwardsville Wins Dual Opener

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville opened the dual meet season with a 36-27 victory over Rend Lake in college wrestling action at the Vadalabene Center. Dillon Pousson (Round Lake) led the Cougars with a second-period pin over Rend Lake's Eric Ellington at 141 pounds. Derrick Pousson (Round Lake) and Blake Reed (Granite City) also were winners for SIUE. More

College Wrestlers Lured by Big Paychecks of Mixed Martial Arts

College football players have the National Football League, basketball players the National Basketball Association or the WNBA. College wrestlers have ... not much. Wrestlers, like many "Olympic" sport stars, are left with few options after college. Coaching is an option, but jobs are dwindling. There's freestyle or Greco-Roman on the national and international stage, but multimillion dollar contracts do not exist. Simply making a living can be difficult. The fight remains, but lucrative arenas have been closed. That may be changing, however, for wrestlers who still burn for competition and the lure of big money. More

Frank addleman is a retired wrestling coach from Santa Ana; Community College. He is a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and the California Wrestling Hall of Fame. Over the years he has worked many wrestling clinics with an emphasis on nutrition and athletic performance and weight control. More
