Dlagnev Beats Mocco in World Team Trials Finals

Wrestling World Team Trials: Jake Varner Makes Team; Travis Paulson, Mike Zadick Out

Mike Zadick and Travis Paulson needed two best-of-three victories to make the freestyle squad for the World Championships in Denmark this fall. Those wins never found their way to Mid-America Center; both wrestlers lost Saturday night. The lone National Open winner to advance was Jake Varner, Iowa State’s 2009 NCAA champion, who will represent the United States at 211.5 pounds before starting his senior season with the Cyclones. Wrestling Club Hopes Event has Longevity

Changes to the Badger Wrestling Coaching Staff

After 16 years with the Wisconsin wrestling team, Bart Chelesvig is resigning from his position as assistant coach. With Chelesvig’s departure, Donny Pritzlaff will move into the role of associate head coach for the Badgers. Chelesvig has been on the UW coaching staff since Davis accepted the head coaching position during the 1994-95 season. He also wrestled under Davis while at Iowa from 1987-92. Chelesvig helped coach Wisconsin’s upper-weight wrestlers and also handled the team’s office operations off the mat. Chelesvig’s official last day with the team will be Aug. 31.
