World Champ Grapples for Starting Spot

Ricky Lundell, a world champion grappler from Orem, Utah, has enrolled at ISU and is a member of the wrestling team. Three from Northwestern Draw Top 10 Preseason Rankings

Amateur Wrestling News released its preseason individual rankings on Saturday and put the spotlight on three Wildcat wrestlers: junior Brandon Precin (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), sophomore Keith Sulzer (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edward) and senior Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). AWN tabbed Herbert as the top-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds while ranking Precin third at 125 pounds and Sulzer 10th in the 141-pound weight class.

Panther Wrestling Practice Open to Public Oct. 18

The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team will hold an open practice and the public is invited to watch the Panthers in action. UNI is coming off a 20th-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, a tournament which saw the Panthers' Moza Fay earn All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket.

Could the next Olympic wrestling champ hail from the Bronx? It might be too early to tell, but a new wrestling training center in the borough is giving students with that dream a chance to go for it. Beat the Streets, an after-school wrestling program for city youth, opened a training center at Harry S Truman High School in Co-Op City. Use of the training center is free for middle and high school students participating in the group's wrestling programs.
