Grand Valley Coach Launches Blockbuster Training System
from NCWA
Grand Valley State (an NCWA team from Michigan) coach Dave Mills has brought a new product to wrestling’s coaches. New this fall, Mills has come up with a multi-media package called “How to Build a Championship Wrestling Program.” This is a great resource for any coach, at any level. The program includes a ton of information on almost every issue imaginable that a coach would deal with. More

Iowa Wrestlers Eye 2nd NCAA Title
from Daily Iowan
Tom Brands knows a thing or two about high expectations. After a year in which the Hawkeyes reasserted themselves as the team to beat, expectations are as high as they've been in Iowa City since Dan Gable prowled the edge of the mat as Iowa's legendary head coach. However, Brands told reporters during the team's media day Wednesday the added pressure of expecting to win is something he thrives in handling. More

from NCWA
The Titan Wrestling Club, a member of the NHSCA, hosted their 2nd Annual Veteran's Day Open at UAlbany Saturday. The event drew 141 competitors from 17 different schools. New Postseason Format to Help Even Playing Field
from Centre Daily Times
As this college wrestling season gets started, it's important we take a look at the end of the season. Wrestling fans will find something new in March, something really new. Remember that the Big Ten historically qualified 72 wrestlers for the NCAA Division I tournament. Other conferences also had designated qualifying numbers based on how that conference performed in the NCAA in the past five years. Forget that. Starting this season, only the winners of conference and regional tournaments will be guaranteed spots in the nationals in St. Louis. All others will qualify through tournaments or be selected as a national at-large entry. More

Princeton: Hopes Remain High as Season Kicks Off
from Daily Princetonian
It’s been 956 days since the wrestling team won a dual meet. While this statistic might evoke images of a broken, disheartened cadre, Princeton is poised to blast above the standard set during the last two seasons. Third-year head coach Chris Ayres now has two sets of his own recruits on the roster and has spent ample time with the upperclassmen. More

Illini’s Thomas Steps Up
from The Telegraph
Failure to make the medals stand at the Class AA wrestling state tournament as a senior provided the greatest disappointment of Daryl Thomas' senior season with the Edwardsville Tigers. A 44-3 record in his final season with the Tigers and three state tournament berths earned Thomas opportunities to continue his wrestling career at college programs the likes of McKendree and Lindenwood. But Thomas had bigger dreams. Illinois has placed among the top 15 at the NCAA championships in 12 of the last 14 seasons under coach Mark Johnson. The Illini, ranked No. 9 in the preseason poll, can fully stock a roster with in-state talent. More specifically, suburban Chicago talent. More

Mount Union College Raiders Undergo an Extreme Makeover
from Mount Union College Sports
For the 2008-09 season, the Mount Union College wrestling program may look like an episode of hit television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” On the show a group of designers and builders go to a family’s home demolish it and build a better home in its place. Literally that is happening this season with the Purple Raider wrestling program as their facilities have been razed and a new wrestling room and locker room are under construction as part of a $16-million dollar project to renovate and remodel the Timken Physical Education Center and Peterson Fieldhouse. When the project is complete next school year Mount Union will have one of the premiere facilities in NCAA Division III wrestling with a new locker room along with a 3,600 square foot wrestling room. Binghamton University a Veteran Team on Wrestling Mat
from Press & Sun Bulletin
Pat Popolizio has several reasons to be optimistic about the Binghamton University wrestling team's coming season. With eight starters and 16 letterwinners back from a team that went 13-12 and finished sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association, Popolizio thinks the Bearcats will be improved. More
