 Mike Fahrer has always been sort of a big brother to Jeret Chiri. Growing up in New London, Fahrer and Chiri's older brother, Nic, were close friends and teammates in just about every sport there was. But it was on the wrestling mat where Fahrer and eventually Jeret Chiri developed a special bond. Even back then, when Fahrer was a senior at New London High School and Jeret was a freshman, they both had the same passion for the sport of wrestling. That common bond has taken the two former New London High School teammates to the highest level in the sport. Both are members of the NCAA Division I defending national champion University of Iowa wrestling team this season.

Apprentice School Takes 35-14 Victory Over NCAA Division II St. Andrews

The visiting Apprentice School wrestling team raised its record on the season to 3-0 with a 35-14 dual-match win over NCAA Division II St. Andrews Presbyterian College. After giving up a forfeit at 125, the Knights recorded a decision victory at 133 pounds and a technical fall win at 141 pounds to take a 14-0 lead.
Junior Matt Perry put the Builders on the board with a 14-4 major decision win over Dennis Clark to cut the deficit to 14-4. That win was his second major decision victory this year and raised his record to 8-7.

Jantzen Continues His Surge

Central Michigan upended Michigan for the third straight meeting in a 19-12 defeat of the Wolverines Dec. 14 as the Chippewas improved to 4-1 on the year. CMU downed Michigan in 2006 and 2007 as well.Freshman Scotti Sentes got the Chippawas off to a stellar start with a 12-0 victory over then-No. 11 Mike Watts in the 125-pound match. Sentes, who entered the meet at No. 9, improved to 6-1 on the year. More
Cal Poly Pinned by Cowboys

Cal Poly junior Chase Pami, ranked No. 12 at 157 pounds, recorded a 3-1 upset decision over Oklahoma State’s Newly McSpadden, but the Mustangs dropped the wrestling dual against the No. 13-ranked Cowboys 37-6.
Pami, who defeated McSpadden last season at the Reno Tournament of Champions in a 3-2 decision, improved his record to 12-4 on the year.
Pami was one of two Cal Poly wrestlers to win by decision. Teammate Eric Maldonado earned a takedown with 56 seconds left in the second period to pick up a 4-2 decision over Oklahoma State’s Quinten Fuentes. The decision improved Maldonado’s record to 7-4.

Hamilton, Mich., Wrestler Making College Comeback

A shoulder injury probably prevented Shawn Pitsch from winning a individual state wrestling championship as a senior. He’s determined to not let a knee injury hamper his college career. The former Hamilton standout is focusing on getting back on the mat for Heidelberg (Ohio) College.

Wartburg Continues Fast Start

Top-ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Wartburg, fresh off its 14th straight win at the Dick Walker Invitational Dec. 13, looks to keep up the torrid pace as the Knights host the sixth annual Vegas Duals Dec. 21 in Las Vegas, Nev. Eight nationally-ranked teams will compete in the event, including No. 2 Coe College and No. 14 Cortland State. The Knights enter the tournament riding a 32-dual winning streak after dominating then-No. 19 Loras, 44-0, on Dec. 3.

Purdue Takes Down College of Mount St. Joesph

The Purdue wrestling team opened Sunday's Ohio road trip with a 30-15 victory at the College of Mount Saint Joseph (MSJ). The Boilermakers claimed seven of the 10 matches on the day, scoring one fall and a trio of technical falls. The Boilermakers dug themselves a hole early, forfeiting 125 and surrendering a fall at 141 pounds to give MSJ a 12-6 lead. Freshman Jake Fleckenstein kept Purdue going at 133 pounds, scoring his first fall of the year in the last five seconds of his match with MSJ freshman Nathan Harmon. Fleckenstein dominated the match, racking up six straight takedowns and planting Harmon on the seventh for the pin. At 141 pounds, sophomore Juan Archuleta led early for the Boilermakers, taking down MSJ junior Eric Meyer to his back early and nearly scoring a pin. However, Meyer managed to squirm off his shoulder blades and mimicked Archuleta's early move and finished the match at the 3:35 mark. More
