Deputy Issues Jackets Instead of Tickets
from the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza
Deputy Ben Coffindaffer with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada is working to make sure boaters on Lake Tahoe don’t have to end their voyage if they are stopped without having proper life jackets for children. His program “Keeping our Children Safe” provides life jackets to boaters who are stopped for not having jackets or not having properly fitting jackets on children. Instead of a ticket, Coffindaffer educates visitors to the lake on proper life jacket safety and distributes one of the life jackets, which come in three sizes. More

Pasture ID Aims to Help the Cows Come Home
from the Lawrence Journal World
A new program aims to save Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies time and, ultimately, taxpayers money by informing them in event of loose animals and suspicious activity. The Pasture ID program uses black-and-white metal signs that ranchers can obtain from the farm bureau and post on pastures. The signs have an identification number on them, so when officers witness suspicious activity or loose animals near or in a pasture with a sign, they can contact the dispatch center and immediately find out who it belongs to.
