Traffic Ticket System Takes High-tech Turn

County Program Checks on Area Seniors

Each morning, at the same time every day, the phone rings in the homes of area seniors throughout Fort Bend County in Texas. They pick up the phone, hit a key on the phone pad, and hang up. Started in 2000, the telephone reassurance program, sponsored by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, makes daily automated calls to members to check on the welfare of seniors and disabled enrolled in the program. Fee Waiver Already Gets Inmates on Monitoring

There has been recent discussion about exempting poor people in the Dane County Jail in Wisconsin from paying electronic monitoring fees. The current county ordinance allows the sheriff to reduce or eliminate the electronic monitoring fee if it would create a hardship. Dane County's program to do that is the only one in the state, is working well, and needs to be supported by all. More than one in four of those on electronic monitoring pay little or nothing. More

Sheriff's Camp Offers Opportunities to Boys in Louisiana

Sheriff's Department Staff Uses Grant for Children's Baseball Program

For the past six years, the Hampden County, Mass., Sheriff's Department staff has been providing inner-city children in the Springfield area the opportunity to be involved in a fun and instructional baseball program. The Boston Red Sox and the Hampden County Deputy Sheriffs Association funded the program for its first five years and it was known as the Red Sox Rookie League. The program was conducted in partnership with the Springfield Boys & Girls Club, and nearly 100 children a year participated. More

Flagler County Sheriff's Office Trying to be Greener
