Sheriff's Volunteers Add to List of Growing Police Responsibilities from the Flagler County News
Don't be alarmed if an unarmed volunteer handles the investigation in your next fender bender. The Flagler County, Fla., Sheriff's Office Citizens Observation Patrol has grown to 85 volunteers. And now nine of them are trained to write citations and handle minor traffic crash investigations. Volunteers in the Traffic Accident Investigation unit of the C.O.P. program completed a 100-hour certification class that trained them in traffic enforcement, courtroom testimony, evidence handling, crash investigation, report writing and ticket writing. Students, State Say Job Training for Inmates is a Success from The Sun News A program that is just over a year old has helped at least 125 inmates from the Georgetown County, S.C., jail receive training and find jobs in the community. Societal Re-entry Begins at the Hampden County Correctional Center from WWLP-TV Sheriff Michael Ashe said 70 percent of his inmates come to the jail unemployed and it's his goal for them to leave with a skill. The Hampden County Correctional Center in Ludlow, Mass., has teamed up with The Springfield Parks Department. It's a win-win for both parties. The city needs help cleaning up Forest Park and the Sheriff wants his inmates to hone a skill so they can get a job when they leave. More
