Slow Down or Face ‘Summer Heat’

Law-enforcement agencies across Louisiana began a crackdown last Friday on speeding motorists. Called "Summer Heat," the crackdown will run for five weeks, with all state police troops participating. Also parts of the effort are local police agencies and sheriff's offices. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft also will be on the lookout for speeders. More

State Jail Systems Pitched As Way to Cut Prison Population in Florida

The secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections is proposing a state jail system for prison inmates serving less than 18 months behind bars. New Cameras to Help Sheriff Serve and Protect

The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department in Mich. will be using a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to bolster their emergency response capabilities. Sheriff Stan Burchardt said the $10,500 grant will allow the department to purchase a ZISTOS Detection Deterrence Search and Surveillance System, as well as pay for training in the operation of the equipment.
