Seat Belt Use Clicks with Indiana Motorists from the Palladium Item Statewide, motorists are buckling up in record numbers, according to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, which released a survey showing that 91.2 percent of Hoosiers are wearing belts. That number is up from 88.4 percent the previous year.The survey supports statistics showing that traffic fatalities are down by 25 percent from Jan. 1 through July 21 over the same period a year ago. Tim Finnerty's love of bicycling led him to join the team that rode through the region Tuesday as part of a 1,000-mile ride across the state to benefit the survivors of fallen officers. Finnerty and the rest of the Indiana Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) team -- with police cars and motorcycles escorting them -- pedaled through Lake and Porter counties Tuesday. Sheriff Experimenting with Fuel-efficient Cars from the Daily World In most people's minds , the term "police cruiser" conjures images of powerful muscle cars capable of hitting 100 miles per hour or more. But, thanks to rising fuel costs, that image may be changing. The St. Landry Parish, La., Sheriff's office has just ordered five Nissan Sentras.
