Sheriffs Back Passage of Meth Ingredient Tracking
from the North County Times
The California State Sheriffs' Association believes that AB 1455 is critical to the continued effort to reduce methamphetamine production in the state. By mandating an electronic tracking system in retail and pharmacy locations that sell allergy and cold drugs containing pseudoephedrine -- best known as PSE, a prime ingredient in the production of methamphetamine -- law enforcement will have a more effective tool in the fight against meth production in California. Electronic tracking is supported by the National Sheriffs' Association and has been implemented in several states, including Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky. More    E-mail article

Beginning next year, Austin, Texas police and the Travis County Sheriffs’ Department plan to start working together with a federally funded, multimillion-dollar intelligence center -- one of dozens of such “fusion centers” across the nation. Arkansas Police to Try Hybrid Fleet
from Officer.com
When a thief in a stolen hybrid car smoked lawmen in Crown Victorias during a high-speed chase through Clark County earlier in 2009, Arkadelphia Police Chief Al Harris was impressed. Any questions his officers had about whether hybrids had the guts to be police cars were answered that night, the chief said. This fall, the Arkadelphia Police Department will join the growing number of law enforcement agencies across the country using hybrids when a new fleet of 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrids hits the streets of the southwest Arkansas town. Area Chiefs Oppose Early Release of Inmates
from the Contra Costa Times
Area police officials are part of a chorus of state law enforcement officers opposed to the governor's plan for the early release of 27,000 prison inmates. “Based on the number of early releases, and the recidivism rate in the state, most of them will probably end up in county jails,” he said.
