On a given day, about 100 inmates at the Virginia Beach, Va., city jail can't speak English. Fewer than 50 sheriff's deputies know another language. Sheriff Paul Lanteigne is hoping to attract and reward staff members who are proficient in a second language by offering more money. More

New Tool Helps Sharpen Surveillance Images from The Gainesville Sun There is a new tool available in North Florida to enhance the often grainy surveillance photos and tapes that can solve crimes like convenience store hold-ups. The Levy County Sheriff's Office used a $30,000 federal grant to buy the Star Witness Pro Image Processing training, computer and program.
