GM, Chrysler Push for More U.S. Aid

General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, already relying on government aid to survive, take their case to the U.S. Treasury that they can undo past mistakes and justify more U.S. aid to return to profit. GM, with a pledge for $13.4 billion in loans, may seek support beyond an $18 billion request made Dec. 2 because of worsening economic conditions, people familiar with the automaker’s plan said. Steel Market Prices Surprise Some Analysts and Decline for Sixth Month

A market basket of carbon steel products dropped an average 10 percent in price this month but even lower-priced mill products failed to trigger an advance in purchasing. Only 15 percent of the buyers polled were increasing steel purchases in January and most of those actually writing purchase orders were distribution industry personnel filling inventory holes. Buyers polled this month see slippage, which began last August, to continue through March before bottoming. More

Nissan and Chrysler Reconsider Product Swap
