Automakers Stake Their Future on Fuel Efficiency from Business Edge Auto manufacturing executives are pinning their hopes on new models - especially fuel-efficient hybrids, advanced fuel cells and electric vehicles - to boost sales as North America struggles in the tightening grip of a recession. "I'm certainly working more hours than usual at the office lately," said Marc Comeau, General Motors of Canada's vice-president of sales, service and marketing. "But I'm convinced this new lineup of vehicles we have is our best yet. Consumers are really going to like what we have to offer." Comeau helped announce the launch of nine new hybrid vehicles last week on the floor of the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, the most offered by any major manufacturer.

Kenworth Introduces Hybrid Service Truck Targeted To Companies with Field Service Operations from Business Fleet Kenworth Truck Company introduced its first diesel-electric hybrid truck in a service application at the World of Concrete Show in Las Vegas.
Kenworth's goal is to enhance fuel economy by up to 50 percent with the new Kenworth T270 hybrid service truck, which is expected to draw interest for use in various service applications in construction and other industries.

Fleet of Electric Trucks is Bound for Port of Los Angeles from Los Angeles Times The standing joke about the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach used to be that they were like the diesel version of elephant graveyards: the place where old trucks went to die. But lately, they have become a proving ground for technology that produces little or no pollution. On Tuesday, the first of 25 heavy-duty all-electric trucks rolled off a new Los Angeles assembly line. All are slated to work at the Port of Los Angeles or to make short hauls to and from the harbor.
