U.S. Sticks to July 10 Deadline for a New GM

Initial and Continuing Jobless Claims Fall

The tally of newly laid-off workers filing for unemployment insurance dropped, the government said, a sign job cuts are easing.
The Labor Department said initial jobless benefit claims fell by 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted 614,000. That nearly matches analysts' estimates, according to Thomson Reuters.

GM, Toyota to End Joint Venture in California

When General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. agreed in 1984 to build vehicles together at a shuttered GM plant, it was a groundbreaking deal for both. The New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. joint venture in Fremont, Calif., provided GM with a close look at Toyota's vaunted manufacturing methods -- which GM essentially adopted. For its part, Toyota benefited from a deal that allowed it to initiate vehicle production in the United States on a small scale.

Consumer Confidence Retreats in June

Consumer confidence fell in June after seeing a big rise in May, the New York-based Conference Board said.
The group’s monthly index fell to 49.3 from a revised 54.8 reading in May that was slightly lower than originally reported.

ISM Manufacturing Index Improves in June
