GM Preps for Rebirth as Leaner Company, Readies Package for Wagoner from Detroit Free Press
General Motors Corp. is rushing to prepare for its rebirth late this week as a company largely owned by the U.S. government. While a government lawyer has said the deal to sell GM's good assets to create a new GM could close immediately after the judge's approval goes into effect at noon Thursday, officials in Detroit expect the new company to emerge no sooner than Friday, people familiar with the planning said.

Eaton Combines Auto, Truck Units from Transport Topics
Vehicle parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. said it is combining its auto and truck groups into one operating unit. Eaton said the new organization will be known as the vehicle group and will be led by Joseph Palchak, current president of its automotive group.

DOE Boosts Fuel Price Outlook from Transport Topics The Energy Department Tuesday boosted its price forecasts for diesel, gasoline and crude oil for this year and 2010. Diesel will average $2.46 this year and $2.79 next year, DOE said in its monthly short-term energy outlook, a slight increase from its prediction last month. Trucking’s main fuel averaged $3.80 last year, peaking last July at a record $4.764 a gallon.
