Chrysler, Nissan Cancel Exchange of Vehicles from the Detroit Free Press
Chrysler Group LLC and Nissan Motor Co. are ending a project in which they would have produced vehicles for each other. The plans, originally announced in early 2008, called for Nissan to make a compact sedan that Chrysler would sell in South America, and another small vehicle in 2010 that Chrysler would sell in other emerging markets.

New Jobless Claims and Total Benefit Rolls Drop from Yahoo! News The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for jobless benefits dropped last week, and the number of people remaining on the rolls also fell, evidence that layoffs have eased.
Still, both figures remain above levels associated with a healthy economy, and analysts expect the unemployment rate to keep rising.

Consumer Confidence Rises in August from Transport Topics Consumer confidence increased in August, the New York-based Conference Board said. The group’s monthly index rose to 54.1, from a revised 47.4 reading in July. A record low of 25.3 was reached in February. The change comes from consumers being less worried about unemployment and the labor market, Bloomberg reported.

July New Home Sales Rise 9.6 Percent from Transport Topics New home sales rose 9.6 percent in July, on the heels of a big jump in June, the Commerce Department said.
Sales grew to an annual rate of 433,000 units, the most since February 2005, Commerce said. June's pace of 395,000, an 11 percent rise, had been the highest in 10 months.

Chrysler Cuts Powertrain Warranty to Five Years from the Detroit Free Press Chrysler Group LLC said that it is dropping its lifetime powertrain warranty in favor of a 5-year, 100,000-mile guarantee. Chrysler spokesman Rick Deneau said the decision was driven by market research that showed consumers prefer warranties with a fixed time period. Powertrain warranties typically cover repair or replacement of transmission and engine parts.
