Low voter turnout expected
The San Antonio Express-News Share
On Monday, the eve of Election Day, Bexar County's elections chief gloomily predicted that fewer than one of every 20 registered voters will have cast ballots by the time polls close tonight. The early voting numbers, a strong indicator of overall turnout, were paltry. Countywide, some 18,500 residents voted early on the 11 proposed changes to the Texas Constitution, as well as for several municipal and school district bond elections. That's
the smallest number of early ballots cast countywide in the four amendment elections held this decade, said Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen. MORE

Stimulus saves or creates nearly 4,000 Texas education jobs
The Houston Chronicle

The federal stimulus package has helped save or create nearly 4,000 education jobs in Texas over the last few months, says a government report. But Texas lags behind many other states in new or saved jobs, the report shows, partly because it has been slow to spend its $5 billion in education stimulus funds. So far, the state has doled out
