Victoria Area Football Teams Return to Practice

The Swine Flu scare shut most teams down last spring, but nothing stopped football teams from starting practice. Last spring, El Campo, Memorial and Bay City canceled spring practice when the UIL put a ban on athletics for two weeks because of the Swine Flu. The Sandcrabs conducted its spring practices after the ban was lifted and will not start until next Monday. Only Class 5A and 4A teams have the option of spring practice. More    E-mail article

Legendary Brazoswood Coach Bryan Dies

L.Z. Bryan, of Lake Jackson, a legendary Texas high school football coach, died at The Methodist Hospital in Houston after a brief illness. He was 80. Bryan spent most of his 40-year career with the Brazosport Independent School District, where he took the Brazoswood Buccaneers from a new team in 1969 to Class 4A state champions five years later.
