Coach's Low-key Ways Works Just Fine for Clark from San Antonio Express-News
There are other high school football coaches in the San Antonio area with better records and more playoff appearances than Lloyd Alexander, whose Clark Cougars are 7-0 this season. Alexander is 47-26 and has guided Clark to the postseason four times since succeeding Mike Robbins in 2002. That's not bad work for someone in his seventh season. Still, a case could be made that Alexander is one of the most underrated coaches in the San Antonio area.

It Runs in the Family: North Mesquite's Cross Country Team Boasts Three Sets of Siblings
from Dallas Morning News HS Game Time North Mesquite High School’s cross country team has had a great winning tradition over the years. The Varsity Boys and Girls teams are the current defending champions of the former district 12-5A. (North Mesquite now competes in district 11-5A after the recent realignment). But the greatest display of tradition comes from NMHS’s team members themselves, which includes three sets of siblings. More
Female Referee Finds Comfort on Football Field from Houston Chronicle Yvonda Lewis used to wear a hairnet. She doesn’t work in the food service industry, although some have suggested she belongs in the kitchen. Lewis used the nylon net and bobby pins to stuff her hair under a black cap, part of the disguise she wore on the football field as the only female official in the Houston area. Now, Lewis is one of three female high school football officials in Texas. Texas High School Football Fans Keeps Stats on Stadiums from Beaumont Enterprise So let's say you're an alumnus of Little Cypress-Mauriceville. And let's say that, despite the Bears' putrid 0-4 record this season, you're determined to follow them to the ends of the earth - which incidentally, means you'll be going to Livingston on Friday night.

Committing Early Can Have its Pros. Cons
from Austin American-Statesman Logic says no fewer than 18 Central Texas senior athletes are presently enjoying as much extra security as the violent world of high school football can provide. Their euphoria has come because they are part of a decade-old trend of committing early to the college programs of their choice. Led by Garrett Gilbert, the Lake Travis quarterback ranked as one of the nation's best at his position, the group's futures seem as secure as fate will allow. Still, there may be trouble in paradise — if not for the Central Texas delegation, then for dozens of prospects elsewhere. More
Volleyball Success Comes Fast for Steele
from San Antonio Express-News HS Game Time As Steele volleyball coach Cathy Glunt reflected back to just three years ago, it seemed like yesterday she was ordering uniforms, putting together a schedule and defining her philosophies — things that come with building a program from scratch. After a four-game victory against defending, Region IV-4A champion New Braunfels Canyon, the Knights not only are in the driver’s seat for their first Class 4A playoff birth, but also to win the championship of the rugged 27-4A.
