Gun Rights Activists Take Issue with Gun Inquiry on Obama Administration Questionnaire from ABC News
Question 59 on the Obama Transition Team's intrusive and extensive list of questions for potential officials of the Obama administration: "Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.” The question has raised the ire of the National Rifle Association. More
FBI Reports 49 Percent Increase in Firearm Background Checks in One Week from World Net Daily Gun sales have skyrocketed since Barack Obama was elected, and many gun owners say they are concerned the nation's next president and a Democratic-controlled Congress will impose a ban on assault rifles and firearm ownership. From Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, the FBI reported 374,000 background checks on people purchasing guns – a 49 percent jump from last year. Dealers are reporting larger-than-usual sales since Election Day, according to the Chicago Tribune. More
Banning Guns by the Size of the Hole in the Barrel from NJ.com It seems that those intent on dismantling the Second Amendment brick by brick have found a new target of opportunity to demonize and ban: guns with a larger hole in the barrel than others. On Nov. 17, the New Jersey Assembly was set to consider A2116, which bans most firearms which shoot projectiles of 50 caliber or larger. More
PETA Calls for Ban on Youth Hunting from NRA Hunters Rights In one of the most shameless exploitations of a tragedy I’ve ever seen, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is calling on Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano to ban hunting by anyone under 18 years old. PETA bases this idiocy on the recent, tragic incident in which an 8-year-old Arizona boy allegedly killed his father and another man. Since the father had taught the boy to hunt and shoot, PETA claims that the deaths are "further proof of the well-established link between cruelty to animals and violence directed against our fellow human beings." Texas Hunters Shelling Out Big Bucks from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Hunting has turned big business over the past few decades and hunters spend more today than ever - especially in Texas, where just finding a spot to hunt can mean thousands of dollars a year. The average Texas deer hunter spent $141 per hunting day or about $1,500 in the 2006 season, according to a report compiled for the Texas Department of Parks & Wildlife in 2007 by Southwick Associates. Altogether, Texas hunters made $2.3 billion in hunting-related expenditures in 2006, the study found. More
Hunting a Brighter Future from ESPN When Tim Young watched his son bag his first deer, he knew he was witnessing a monumental moment in the child's life. It took three shots for the young hunter to finally hit his mark, and in those seconds Young watched as the boy's expression ranged from nervous anticipation to devastation to elation. Laughter, tears, shouts of joy — the human experience bottled into a few short minutes. Young is part of a hunting movement to impart passion for the sport to the next generation. It's a task he and others say goes beyond hunting for the fun of it, and may decide the sport's very survival. More
